British Lab Pups

Some of you have seen my lab and some have not.  She is an amazing dog and great hunter..  Super athletic and a sweet dog.  We purchased her through River Valley British Labs and had her sent over to us here in Washington.  Her father was a great dog, (Ben) Tom (the owner of RVBL's) guide dog.  http://www.rivervalleybritishlabs.com/ 

One of the males out of her same litter is a stud dog on britlabs.com and his name is reed  http://www.britlabs.com/stud-dogs.html... take a look at that dog

These dogs do not get as large as the American labs (60-65 pounds max) and are more mellow at home.  They are super smart and can learn with little effort.  (I can tell Lola to get me a beer and she will bring one)

We bred Lola with a local lab from Ireland at circle b labs http://www.circleblabs.com/  his name is Roy and he is a great lab also. 

We do not plan to do this again.

The pups should come in mid January and be ready mid March.  We are in the Tacoma area.

I would hope that you did at least SOME health clearances on your dogs. PRA is a HUGE problem in the British lines. Along with EIC, HD, ED and a few other issues.

Yup... Stud dog has a prelim OFA certificate shown on the link above which means the hips were tested prior to the dog being old enough to have the actual OFA certificate. To get an actual OFA listing, the dog must be over 24 months of age.

Thanks for all of the help I am happy to sponsor the site!  I will get some pictures when they arrive and in the meantime get some of Lola doing crazy things.  I think I have some of her at Performance Dogs NW with Pat Murphy also.  She loves to dive in the water and it looks insane when you get it on camera.

Do you have all her health clearances? I'm asked all the time about available litters however, I will NOT refer anyone to a person who does a breeding without at least a hip/elbow, PRA, EIC and CNM.

If you need more information on the importance or what these tests are, I'm sure Pat will tell you the same thing as I preach here that all labs should have those done at minimum.

We had her all checked out out by our vet .. then another vet and talked to the breeders on both sides.  Obviously since I posted the link to the stud dog earlier both the stud dog and our dogs parents were tested and passed the OFA for hips.  Even Lolas brother from the same litter (stud dog Reed on britlabs.com) was tested for all of this.  Obvious none of that clears her. 

They will breed these dogs over and over and ship pups all over.  They will also ask $1500 a pup and likely get it.  I did not get her OFA etc done and I will be asking less for the pups.  I am breeding her one time not over and over again. 

For all of you looking for a guarantee in writing I can give you one but they are kind of worthless.  My good friend and hunting partner got a pointing lab (very expensive) from a popular breeder in eastern WA a few years ago. ..  Came with all of the certs and a really solid bit of marketing and a guarantee.  It has seizures a lot and its very sad.  The breeder said he may be able to get another pup if he wants to return his...  No $ back and the dog that is part of the family now.  My point is there is no perfect situation. 

I did decide to go get pictures of the pups for everyone to see..   

Vet said the due date around Jan 15.  Anyone want to pick one of these out??

So we ended up with 5 pups..  They look great and things are good so far.. Here is a picture of them (post below)

I also wanted to add one of the pictures of Lola that I think is amazing.  This picture shows her jumping in the water... She does not just run into the water and hop as you can see she gains a lot of ground every time she jumps. 

Lola is a very athletic dog that is really mellow in the house.  She is in my opinion the perfect combination athletic gun dog and family dog.  It is really fun to watch her go.  At the waterfront near our house people just stop and are amazed at these jumps.  Most of them ask what kind of dog is that...

The pups are 5 weeks old on Saturday.  We have 2 left both are males.

UPDATE!  One puppy left... he is probably one of the two I would have kept. . or I wish I could keep..
